Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Growth and Progress

As we near the end of the year, it's a perfect time to reflect on what we've accomplished together in 2024. It has been an eventful year filled with new initiatives, successful events, and continued advocacy for our industry. Every step we’ve taken has been guided by our commitment to support you, our valued members, and to strengthen the boating industry in Western Australia. From hosting a number of events to introducing industry initiatives, we’ve worked to provide opportunities, resources, and a sense of community.

Advocacy

This year, we’ve been vocal in advocating for the needs and interests of the marine industry. Key highlights include engaging with government stakeholders to address critical issues like infrastructure development, regulatory reforms, and support for small businesses in our sector. Our efforts have led to meaningful discussions on improving access to waterways and better funding for marine facilities, ensuring the long-term sustainability of our industry.

Marine Careers

Recognising the growing need to attract young talent, we launched a Marine Careers Advocacy strategy this year. This initiative aims to showcase the diverse and rewarding career opportunities within the marine industry. Through school outreach programs, partnerships with training providers, and industry-led workshops, we are inspiring the next generation to consider a future in boating and marine industries.

Events

2024 has been a standout year for BIAWA events. The Club Marine Perth Boat Show saw over 80 exhibitors showcasing the best of the industry. We also introduced a new boat show in Mandurah and brought the Hillarys Boat Show back after a decade, drawing thousands of visitors and revitalising enthusiasm for on-water showcases. Our convoys continued to connect members and boating enthusiasts alike, and the Annual Awards Dinner celebrated the remarkable achievements of our community, including the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement and Apprentice of the Year Awards.

Looking Ahead

As we prepare to welcome 2025, we are excited about the opportunities ahead. Together, we will continue to strengthen the industry, support our members, and foster a love for boating across Western Australia.

Thank you for your support, engagement, and commitment throughout the year. We look forward to achieving even greater things with you in 2025.

Warm regards,
Sheryl Swarbrick
President and CEO
Boating Industry Association of WA
